DO YOU SHARE A VIEW THAT OUR COUNTRY AND OUR WAY OF LIFE IS UNDER ATTACK AND THAT A MULTI-PARTY POLITICAL SYSTEM MIGHT HELP TO PRESERVE OUR CONSTITUTION? SHOULD THE INDEPENDENT PARTY.COM SOLICIT MONEY ON THE WEB IN ORDER TO HIRE THE NECESSARY PEOPLE TO GET THIS PROJECT OFF AND RUNNING? SHOULD I, AT LEAST, PAY A WEB DESIGN FIRM TO PUT TOGETHER A MORE PROFESSIONAL WEBSITE SO THAT THE INDEPENDENT PARTY CAN BE FORMED AND START ON ITS JOURNEY? PLEASE SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH ME.
VOTING RIGHTS ISSUES
FIXED TERMS FOR ALL ELECTED FEDERAL OFFICE HOLDERS INCLUDING FEDERAL JUDGES AND SUPREME COURT JUSTICES. A CODE OF CONDUCT FOR SUPREME COURT JUSTICES.
AMENDING THE CONSTITUTION TO ESTABLISH A CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT OF PRIVACY
SHOULD THE ACTION OF THE TENNESSEE LEGISLATURE IN REMOVING THE TWO LEGISLATORS BE CHALLENGED IN COURT ON THE GROUND THAT THE VOTE TO REMOVE THEM WAS BASED ON RACE, AN UNACCEPTABLE AND UNCONSTITUTIONAL BASIS UPON WHICH TO REMOVE AN ELECTED OFFICIAL FROM OFFICE?
ARE THE REPUBLICANS PLANNING TO TRY TO TAKE AWAY A WOMAN'S RIGHT TO VOTE AFTER THEY FINISH TAKING AWAY HER RIGHT TO INITIATE OR TERMINATE A PREGNANCY?
As to gun violence-
All automatic and semiautomatic weapons should be banned. The right to bear arms is not to be treated any differently than the right to free speech. Just as you cannot yell fire in a movie theater, constitutional rights set forth in the Bill of Rights can be limited and restricted based on the safety and well being of all citizens. It is hard to imagine that the founders of this country envisioned that there would be firearms capable of mass destruction in the hands of private citizens. Let's return to the days of the muzzle loaders that were in use at the time of the adoption of the 2nd Amendment. Background checks are just a small part of the answer to gun violence. The main issue is the power of government to restrict possession of certain types of weapons and the ability of people to possess these weapons.
As to voting rights issues-
Laws restricting or limiting access to voting, such as laws making it illegal to provide food or water to someone in line waiting to vote, are repugnant to a civilized society. Laws aimed at limiting voting by mail are an attack against democracy. We should be trying to make it easier for people to vote, not harder.
As to fixed terms of office-
President and Vice President of the United States-one six term term of office. No campaigning, speeches or attendance at gatherings, for or against any person running for office during the six year term.
United States Senators-maximum of two consecutive seven year terms of office. No campaigning, speeches or attendance at gatherings, for or against any person running for office while serving in office. May run one time for reelection after the first term of office expires.
House of Representatives-maximum of two consecutive six year terms of office. No campaigning, speeches or attendance at gatherings, for or against any person running for office while serving in office. May run one time for reelection after the first term of office expires.
Federal Judges-one and only one 15 year term of office.
Judges on the Federal Courts of Appeal-one and only one 17 year term of office.
Supreme Court Justices-one and only one 18 year term of office.
As to a Code of Conduct for Supreme Court Justices
Every judge in every state has a code of conduct to which they must conform. Only the Justices of the US Supreme Court have no such code of conduct. Without such a code they are free to do and say as they please without having to answer to anyone. It all boils down to "who will watch the watchers". We cannot and should not rely upon the judgment of any of the justices when it comes to judging their own conduct.
